Lync, Microsoft’s dynamic communication platform, was made for enterprises. With its slick VOIP and instant messaging features, employees across a company can stay connected at the click of a button. Moreso, entire teams can collaborate with Lync’s video conferencing and group presentation options. While Lync may have been made with the enterprise in mind, though, others are singing its praises.
Many telecommuters, including Jason Perlow in his article at ZDNet.com, are calling Lync “a telecommuter’s dream come true.”
One of Lync’s greatest features is its seamless integration with other Microsoft products, as Ellen Durbin writes in a post on LifeSize.com. For telecommuters, this ability to present a Powerpoint presentation or virtually collaborate on a Word document with other employees largely circumvents the constant emailing back and forth of documents. Beyond this, it allows teams to come together and work on a project at the same moment, no matter the time zone of the different participants.
Lync doesn’t merely connect people, though, it makes it easy and effortless to do so.
Long conference call numbers that used to be jotted down on a slip of paper before a meeting are a thing of the past with Lync. Instead, the communication platform is fully integrated with Exchange and users only have to click on the “Join Lync Meeting” button to be instantly connected to the conference.
Telecommuters can join in meetings whether they’re at a home office, in an airport, or out running errands. With the new Lync 2013, users are now able to use a Wi-Fi or 4G data connection for direct VOIP or video conferencing on smart phones or tablets.
Costly, outdated PBX (private branch exchange) enterprise phone systems can instead be replaced with a webcam and a microphone, equipment that generally comes standard in most PCs, laptops, and tablets, as Gadjo Sevilla writes in a Calgary Herald article. These cost effective and accessible tools help telecommuters create a home office that has the same capabilities as any company office or cubicle.
Lync levels the playing field not only among in-office and virtual employees, but among companies as well.
Microsoft Lync is optimized to work for businesses of all sizes with flexible pricing options depending on the needs of an organization. Companies can find a Lync solution that works for them whether they’re a large corporation or a small start-up. In the end, switching to Lync can even save a company money if they were previously working with one of those outdated PBX systems.
